Art Gallery of South Australia — Too Deadly: Ten Years of Tarnanthi

To mark Tarnanthi’s tenth anniversary, the Art Gallery South Australia (AGSA) will present Too Deadly, a survey exhibition of contemporary works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Created for Tarnanthi Festival, the works are now held in the AGSA collection and include paintings, sculptures, installations and moving-images that have never before been seen outside Adelaide.

Museums and Gallery Services Queensland — Afghanistan by Andrew Quilty

Afghanistan is an exhibition of photographs by award-winning photojournalist and author Andrew Quilty made during his time living in the Afghan capital of Kabul from 2013 to 2022. Quilty describes his work from this period as an ‘imperfect portrait of time and place’ that observes the everyday lives of people living in Kabul. Curated by Ellie Waterhouse, this is the first time Quilty’s work is being toured to Australian audiences.

National Gallery of Australia — Of This Earth

Of This Earth is a touring exhibition which will highlight cultural continuity and contemporary artistic expression of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists through ceramic works drawn from the national collection. The exhibition will feature over 30 works of art showcasing the diverse techniques, narratives and innovations of this constantly evolving material and celebrates the breadth of First Nations ceramic practice.

SharingStories Foundation — Virlkuthalypila and Other Stories from Our Country - Same Like Yesterday

Virlkuthalypila and Other Stories from Our Country - Same Like Yesterday is a vibrant, animated projection-installation following six senior Adnyamathanha women and two teenage girls along a Dreaming track as they share stories of ancestors. The animation explores memories of growing up on Country and women’s stories as a way of teaching people about Adnyamathanha culture and the new ways they are passing on culture. Creative, cultural and education programs led by First Nations artists and cultural leaders will be delivered alongside the exhibition at each venue.

University of New South Wales (UNSW) Galleries — Matters of Time: Contemporary Metal Practices

Matters of Time is a touring exhibition bringing together 11 Australian artists to explore relationships between metal and time. Featuring new commissions and recent work, the exhibition draws on lineages of smithing and contemporary approaches to metalworking in art and design. Spanning furniture, jewellery, drawing, sculpture, and installation, the exhibition reflects on broader material cultures and concerns, including extraction and industrialisation, inviting a deeper understanding of this ubiquitous material in contemporary life.
