The Australian Public and Educational Lending Right Schemes provide annual payments to book creators and publishers to compensate them for the free multiple use of their print copy books in public and educational lending libraries.

This month, more than $23 million will be paid under the schemes – with that number set to increase from next year following changes announced by the Government as part of its new National Cultural Policy, Revive.

The changes will see the payments also apply to ebooks and audiobooks, which are rapidly growing in popularity amongst readers.

The lending right schemes support the enrichment of Australian culture by encouraging the growth and development of Australian writing.
