Indigenous Employment Initiative (IEI)
About the Indigenous Employment Initiative (IEI) in the arts and cultural sectors
The Australian Government supports the employment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the arts and cultural sectors through the IEI as part of efforts to close the gap in employment outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
The IEI's focus is to provide employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the arts and culture sector with mainstream employment conditions and training skills development.
The IEI supports jobs in Indigenous arts, culture, language and broadcasting organisations in regional and remote areas, with employees engaged in roles such as community media officers, arts workers, mentors, gallery assistants, broadcasting technicians and language assistants. Accordingly the IEI complements and aligns with the Indigenous Arts, Culture and Languages Programs.
